Dr. Wangdo Kim is a distinguished professor of mechanical engineering at Universidad de Ingenieria y Tecnologia (UTEC) in Lima, Peru. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University and his B.S. from Seoul National University. Dr. Kim’s illustrious career includes roles as a production manager at Daewoo Heavy Industries, software engineer at Fujitsu Korea, and CAD/CAM manager at Samsung Aerospace Industries. He has held academic positions at Nanyang Technological University, Portland State University, and Seoul National University. Dr. Wangdo Kim earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Seoul National University in 1979. He continued his education at Lehigh University, where he obtained an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1986, followed by a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 1991. He also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Orthopaedic Biomechanics at Lehigh University in 1992.

Dr. Kim has a diverse professional background, starting as a Production Manager at Daewoo Heavy Industries from 1980 to 1982. He then worked as a Software Engineer at Fujitsu Korea from 1983 to 1984. His tenure at Samsung Aerospace Industries spanned from 1992 to 1998, where he served as CAD/CAM Manager. He has held several academic positions, including Associate Professor at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore (1998-2004), Bioengineering Research Scientist at Legacy Clinical Research Center Biomechanics Lab in Portland, OR (2005), and Visiting Associate Professor at Portland State University (2006-2007). From 2009 to 2015, he was a Research Associate at the Technical University of Lisbon, and from 2016 to 2018, he was a Lecturer in Biomechanics at Seoul National University. Since 2018, he has been a Professor of Ingeniería Mecánica at Universidad de Ingenieria y Tecnologia (UTEC) in Lima, Peru.
🏆Awards:
Dr. Kim’s contributions to the field of biomechanics have been recognized with numerous awards. He won 1st prize in the biomedical product competition during the Nanyang Technological University Technopreneurship 21 Program in 2001 and received the Paper Award from Physiological Measurement in 2006 for his study on “Wound measurement by curvature maps.” In 2012, his research on the natural frequency of the foot-surface cushion during running earned top article recognition from BioMedLib. He was also a contender for the “Grand Challenge Competition to Predict In Vivo Knee Loads” at the 2010 ASME Summer Bioengineering Conference and was an invited speaker at the European Sports Science Summit in 2015. Additionally, Dr. Kim was recognized as an Outstanding Reviewer for Elsevier’s The Knee in 2017.
